Proposed India 13 and 14 Reunion
Message from Tom Carter India 13 ( thcarter@usaid.gov and Larry Vrieling (India13) (ljvma@comcast.net
It was just 49 years ago – a blink of the eye – that India 13 and 14 were settling into assignments as Volunteers in Punjab, Mysore, Kerala and Andhra. We had gone through what, looking back, was a wonderful training program. For those of us who were in poultry, Bill Newlon and Tom Arens combined wisdom and experience both in the U.S. and in India. Donna Anderson supported the India 14 technical staff with her skills and knowledge of what it meant to be a volunteer in India. Sher Plunkett designed a remarkable cross-cultural program that included inspiring speakers and wonderful readings. Most of us had language instructors who sparked a love of India and the states where we had arrived. And perhaps most important, we discovered new friendships, many of which have lasted to this day.
As we were starting our service, most of us were very fortunate to have staff who enriched our experience. Some, like Kellogg Smith in Bangalore, are no longer with us. But Jack Slattery, Joyce Russell, Tom Arens and others were there for us.
Plans have progressed for our reunion. Here are the details:
Dates:
April 24 evening through April 27 morning, 2015 at University of California at Davis in Sacramento, CA
Please encourage other members of India 13 and 14 to attend!!!
